Keywords for Searching

Identify words in your research question. Think about the requirements of your assignment. Make a list.

If your essay is to determine a solution to the problem of plastic pollution in the Pacific Ocean, you could choose the following keywords. It's helpful to put phrases in quotation marks.

  • "Great Pacific Garbage Patch"
  • microplastics
  • "marine debris"
  • "Pacific Ocean"
  • recycling
  • environment
  • "environmental conditions"

Try a search statement that combines two items on your list.

  • "marine debris" AND "Pacific Ocean"
