Your Assignment

Oral Presentations
25% of your grade consists of one group pair presentation on a famous mission. During the first
session, the class will be divided into small groups for presentations. Your group will lead the class
during the final week of class for about 15 minutes.
You are also expected to email me all presentation materials within 24 hours after you present. Each
student will be graded on his or her own performance, not on the performance of the group as a
whole. All members of the team are expected to spend an equal amount of time talking.
Each presentation/discussion should be interactive (divide class into groups to discuss issues,
use images (NOT VIDEOS), create a dramatic performance, etc.). You will be evaluated on:
 the logical order of your presentation
 your thesis statement (what you are trying to prove)
 your engagement with your audience (asking good questions and not reading from slides)
 the visual/audio elements of your presentation (avoid typographical errors, maintain slide white space)
You should consider some or all of the following questions in your oral presentation:
 What was the reason that this person thought it important enough to embark on a mission?
 What was the person’s context?
 What role did courage and/or belonging play in this mission?
 What were some of the challenges that the mission faced?
 How successful was the mission? (Be sure to define what success means to you)
 If you were engaging in such a mission, how might you manage it differently? What about the mission
could participants control or not control?
