What do you like to do in your free time?
Of course, as a librarian, I love reading and I spend a lot of time reading at home or outside. I do a lot of crafts and am currently working on a small weaving that incorporates pine needles from a camping trip. I also love being active and started rock climbing three years ago. I’m a runner, a biker, roller blader, swimmer, hiker, and camper. I’m also an avid gardener and plant enthusiast. Oh, I also love to travel and am always planning my next trip!
What accomplishment, either professional or personal, are you most proud of?
I have to say that at the moment I am most proud of the fact that I completed my master’s degree in library science. It took me a long time after my bachelor’s degree (eight years to be exact) to settle down and choose a career. However, I don’t regret taking the time to figure out exactly what I wanted because I feel I am finally on a professional path that I am deeply motivated by. I have loved my life thus far and am simply impatient to continue on with the rest of it!
What is the most exotic place you have ever been to?
I spent a month travelling through India when I graduated from Eckerd in 2011. I travelled from New Delhi to Leh to Dharamsala to Dubai, with quite a few stops in between. I visited two UNESCO world heritage sites: Ellora caves and Elephanta caves, saw the Dalai Lama speak in a small town in the Himalayas (through which I travelled by jeep), saw monkeys and yaks and camels (in cities and forests), and visited numerous monasteries and temples. It wasn’t all magical, but it was all incredibly memorable.
What are your current obsessions?
I am currently obsessed with book and paper arts.I love the structure of the book and have taken courses in book making. I have signed up for two more courses this year and am a bit obsessed with art book collections. I’ve visited the Special Collections at Ringling College of Art and Design where they have a significant art book collection and am planning on taking a trip to Miami to visit the Jaffe Center for Book Arts within the next few months.
What was your first job?
My first job ever was in high school and I worked at an ice cream shop. My most exciting job was working as an ESL teacher in China. One of my favorite jobs was working as a pie-baker at a local coffee shop/bakery in Brooklyn. However, truthfully, this could be considered my first job, as it is my first job in the career I have chosen to pursue in a professional manner.
